Training Tip of the Week

Get Some Sleep

Not only do we need adequate sleep to recover from training and work, but numerous studies have shown that lack of sleep can cause us to put on weight!

Lack of sleep effect’s our hormone levels, specifically Ghrelin and Leptin production.

Ghrelin is produced in the gastrointestinal tract and stimulates appetite, while Leptin, produced in fat cells, sends a signal to the brain when we are full.

When we don’t get enough sleep, it drives Leptin levels down, which means we don’t feel as satisfied after we eat, and causes Ghrelin levels to rise, which means our appetite is stimulated so we want more food, as well as promoting the retention of fat.

The combination of these factors can completely undermine our attempts at healthy, balanced eating habits.

Try to sleep at least seven hours per night and you wont feel so hungry the next day!
