Body Mass Index, or BMI is a simple equation we can use to measure whether our weight is healthy.
BMI is calculated by:
Weight (kg’s) / height (m) 2
E.g someone who is weighs 65 kg’s and is 170 cm’s tall would have a BMI of 22
65 / 1.72 = 22.4913495
BMI categorizes us into different weight ranges:
Underweight – 16 to 18.5
Healthy – 18.5 to 25
Overweight – 25 to 30
Obese – 30 plus
BMI is not perfect and does have some limitations, however it is a good guide in calculating how healthy our body weight is.
